A picture's worth a thousand words

Except that I didn't have my camera. Yesterday and today have been excessively cloudy days in Geneva. Last night upon return home, I couldn't see more than 200 meters ahead of me. The mountains? You'd never have known they were there. I decided to take a short leave from work today and go for a walk - for sanity's sake. As I stepped out the front door, I saw that the sun was starting to break through the cloud-infested sky. I could do nothing but walk towards the magnificent sight. The clouds kept receeding, and the afternoon sun streamed right through. A sight such as this would have been something to stop and gaze at anywhere, but the sunlight was beaming down, in distinct rays, upon the mountains was absolutely breathtaking. As I got closer, past the buildings of quaint Veyrier, the base of the mountain was visible. Stretches of farmland led up to partially snow-covered, traditionally "Swiss" houses that were set just above the rise of the land. The sun fought its way through the clouds in streaks, hitting off the land, houses and mountain. If this wasn't enough of a memorable moment, my ipod, set to shuffle, decided to play the "Ave Maria" that I had performed with Chambers a few years ago. I was overwhelmed with happy memories with dear friends (not to mention a beautiful song) and staring directly into the face of Heaven. So there I was, this young American girl in her chic athletic gear, staring up at the sky - smiling brightly. It goes to show you, the clouds' presence make the return of the sun that much more spectacular, even if the fog can be discouraging and unrelenting. I think the experience was more personable without my camera, as you are separated somehow from what you're capturing. I did, however, quickly grab my camera and attempt to salvage SOMETHING from the day! Though not nearly as grand as it was before because the clouds had mostly parted, this was the sight from my bedroom window:
