Le voyage
October 1, 2010
The trip to Rwanda wasn’t bad. Spending an entire 24 hours getting from point A to point B is somewhat exhausting and can throw you off a bit, but NOTHING will seem difficult after my initial trip to Geneva. That took 48 hours in total, and I ended up going through customs a total of 3 times, at Prestwick in Scotland, at Heathrow and finally (the following day) at Geneve-Cointrin. All thanks to a dusting of snow in London.
So these flights were nothing. TFGreen in RI (I will NOT call it “Providence”) to Dulles in DC to Brussels to Kigali. I think I’ve pretty much mastered this type of travel – I MUST brush my teeth before sleeping on an 8-hour flight, and again when I wake up. I brought a total outfit change for Brussels, because 24 hours in one pair of clothes is enough. I didn’t get to shower, but felt so much better and was ready for the next leg of my trip. Nothing like getting to your destination and just feeling FUNKY. [I think the Glee trip to Prague threw us all for a loop in that way, and I’m not ready to do that again.]
So I finally land in Kigali – only about 25 minutes late after taking off about 45 min late – and through customs without a problem. It’s about then that the worry sets in – will my bags make it all the way here? I’ve had seamless travel thus far, is that really possible? After what seems like an eternity, though probably only 15-20 minutes, my bags finally arrive, one after the other. Such a relief.
So I’m all present and accounted for (with no detours to Scotland).
